Retort pouches vs. frozen ready meals for export

Retort pouch products are shelf-stable at room temperature for 12–18 months, shipped as standard dry cargo. Frozen ready meals require an unbroken cold chain from the Indian factory through customs to your warehouse, and carry a shorter practical shelf life on arrival.

The cost comparison usually isn't close once freight is factored in: reefer container rates and cold-chain handling at both ends typically outweigh any per-unit quality edge frozen has over a well-made retort product, especially over longer shipping routes.

When frozen still wins

Shorter regional routes with reliable cold-chain infrastructure at the destination, and product categories where retort processing measurably changes texture (some proteins and mixed-vegetable dishes), are where frozen remains the better spec despite the added logistics cost.
